Obituary

Robert Charles Lutz, 77, died Feb. 21, 2013, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born May 21, 1935, in Cawker City, Kan., to Fredrick and Lucille (Harmon) Lutz.

Bob graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1953. He was the Shop Chief of OMS 4 Kansas Army National Guard, 35th Division Artillery. Bob was a former commander of Service Battery 1-161st FA Battalion. He retired in 1991 as Chief Warrant Officer 4 after serving 39 years. He was awarded the Order of St. Barbara Medal. He was also a member of the Hutchinson-Reno County Citizen Police Academy. A member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, he was a member of the church Holy Name Society and Bingo Committee.

Bob married Lupe F. Rodriguez on June 8, 1953, in Ellsworth. She survives.

Other survivors include: five children, Vicky Bonilla (Rod) of Salina, Chris Casteal (Fred) of Carrollton, Texas, Bobby Lutz (Sue) of Hutchinson, Kathleen Carter (Gregory) of Hutchinson, Steve Lutz (Shari) of Nickerson; brother, Fred E. Lutz of Perryton, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George Lutz.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson, with Father Ned J. Blick officiating. Parish rosary will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
