Robert C. "Bob" Martindell, 86, died May 31, 2008, in Thorne Care Center, Wesley Towers, Hutchinson.
He was born May 4, 1922, in Hutchinson, the son of Donald C. and Edith Brown Martindell.
He was a lifetime Hutchinson resident. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1940 and received his undergraduate and Law Degree from the University of Kansas.
He began practicing law with his father in 1949, and later became a partner in that firm and retired in 2004 from Martindell, Swearer and Shaffer Law Firm.
He belonged to the First Congregational Church, he sang in the choir, and served as Moderator. He also served on committees. He was a member of the Jr. Chamber of Commerce, serving as the State Vice President, Hutchinson Reno Masonic Lodge # 124 AF and AM served as an officer and State Commander in the Knights Templar Lodge, Hutchinson Rotary Club member and past director, in it's early years was a volunteer lecturer for the Hutchinson Planetarium. Bob also loved golfing and traveling. He and his wife took many overseas trips with the KU Alumni Assocation and many of their own. He was also a member of the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68. He served three years in the U.S. Army during WWII in an anti-tank company, the 394th Infantry Regiment, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
On Aug. 10, 1947, he married Irene Lanphier in Hutchinson. She survives.
Survivors include: son, Steven and his wife Daphne, of Richardson, Texas, Stan and his wife Karen of Topeka.; daughter, Cynthia Wiens husband Jerry, of San Antonio, Texas, Sandra Lonnecker and husband, Michael, Poway, Calif.; sister, June Scott, North Fort Meyers, Fla.; four granddaughters, Kristen Wiens Green of Gainsville Ga., Taylor, Paige and Blair Martindell of Topeka; and two great-grandchildren, Branson and Emilie Green, both of Gainsville, Ga.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, William "Bill" and John Richard "Dick" Martindell.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Congregational Church, 3410 N. Plum, Hutchinson, with the Pastor Matt Stafford presiding. A private family graveside service will follow the funeral in the Fairlawn Mausoleum, with Military Honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may sign the book from, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the casket remaining closed. Family will receive friends following the funeral service at the church.
