Obituary

Robert "Bob" Merrill Bass, 83, died June 14, 2015, at St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. He was born Jan. 10, 1932, to Noble Alonzo Bass and Pearl Lee (Hunt) Bass, in Rago.

Bob worked a number of jobs in his lifetime and served in the Army for 10 years, where he was a sergeant. He was an evangelist and pastor, serving churches in Salina and Delta, Colorado. After retiring from the pastorate, he started a gun shop, restoring and fixing guns and loading ammunition.

Bob married Carolyn Miller in 1956 and married Patricia Dixon in 1990.

He is survived by: his wife, Patricia; daughter, Julia Caudillo (Sebastian II) of Hutchinson; sons, Martin Bass (Tammy) of Pratt, and Matthew Bass of Hutchinson; stepchildren, Kathryn Waters (Blake) of Basehor, and Thomas Dixon (Cheri) of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Santalena Caudillo (Darren Potter), Sebastian Caudillo III (Allyson), Heather Davidson (Brock), Ryan Bass (Teresa), and Kristen Bass; step-grandchildren, Nathan Waters (Erin), Sara Beardslee (Michael), Tyler Dixon (Melanie), Matthew Dixon, and Jessica Toevs (David); 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Hugh and Jack Bass, both of Hutchinson; and sister, Gwinnel Nickel of South Hutchinson. He was preceded in death by: his parents; four brothers, John, William, Sylven "Dusty", Loren Dean; and two sisters, Maxine Edwards and Georgiana Cummins.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2015, at First Church of the Nazarene, 4290 N. Monroe, Hutchinson, with Pastor Randall Harrell and the Revs. Pat Weyrauch and Bones Nay officiating. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson.
