Our country is in mourning, for a soldier died today. Robert R. "Bob" Taylor, 87, died November 10, 2010 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center on St. Francis, Wichita.

He was born April 28, 1923, in Ellinwood, to Joseph W. and Wilma Strong Taylor.

He was a member of Walnut and Campbell Church of Christ. Bob served in the United States Army from 1943-1945, during which he was a prisoner of war for 11 months. Bob was a member of the Hutchinson-Reno Masonic Lodge #124 A.F. & A.M., American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, and V.F.W. Bob Campbell Post #1361.

A resident of Hutchinson since 1960, coming from Stafford, he worked at Countryside Lanes for 11 years. He then went to work as a machinist at Cessna, retiring in 1985.

He married Henrietta "Etta" Pennel on Nov. 1, 1942. She survives.

Other survivors include: sister, Geneva Chapman, Kinsley; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Taylor; two granddaughters, Terry Hendricks and Penny Barker; all of Hutchinson; four great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; close friends, Fred and Carol Heinlein, Nickerson. Bob was preceded in death by son, Phillip E. Taylor; granddaughter, Candy Glaser; three brothers, Donald R., Charles and Karl Taylor; two sisters, Mary K. Callahan and Celia F. Adams.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, in Turon Cemetery, with Chaplain Bob Phipps officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
