Robert "Bob" Sallabedra, 83, died Feb. 3, 2010, at the Hospice House in Hutchinson.
He was born Sept. 8, 1926, in Plevna, Kan., to Valentin and Valentina Reyes Sallabedra.
He was a graduate of Sylvia High School and former operator at the Sylvia COOP. He spent many years as a roughneck in northern Kansas oilfields. He retired as department foreman at Cessna Fluid and Power Division. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in South Hutchinson. He also belonged to the Cessna Employees Club, was an active church volunteer spending many hours mowing and doing other grounds maintenance, as well as helping out at the State Fair church booths.
On Jan. 11, 1958, he married Teresa "Terre" Cabral in Salina. She survives.
Other survivors: sons, Bruce Carignan, Fontana, Calif., Mark Carignan, Victor and Robert V. Sallabedra, Hutchinson, Luke Carignan, Kansas City, Mo.; brothers John, Hutchinson, and Sonny, Stafford; 10 grandchildren, including Michael Carignan and Ashley Sallabedra, both of Hutchinson; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Everet.
Funeral Mass will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson, with Fr. Brian Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park and Mausoleum. Parish rosary will be at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Friends may call 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
