Robert Roy Sandford, 90, died December 7, 2008 at Pleasant View Home, Inman.
He was born August 24, 1918, in St. Louis, MO, the son of Lemmings and Nettie Snyder Sandford. He graduated from Forest Avenue High School in Dallas, TX in 1935. He moved from Dallas to Great Bend in 2006, then to Hoisington in 2007. He was a retired postman for the United State Postal Service.
He served in the Army Air Force during WWII and was a Prisoner of War. He was a member of VFW Post 7428 and American Legion Post 286, both in Hoisington. One of his last wishes was to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC, as part of the Honor Flight program, which he did on October 1, 2008.
In January 1987 he married Barbara Mathers in Dallas. She survives. Other survivors include: two sons, Howard Sandford and wife Sandra, Las Colinas, TX and Anthony Sandford and wife Sharon, Holly Lake, TX; two daughters, Debra Hawkins and husband William, Jr, Macksville, and Allison Embry and companion Raymond Pagan, Hoisington; a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
