Robert J. "Bob" Schank, 87, died at his residence at Elm Grove Estates.
He was born Jan. 12, 1920, in Coldwater, the son of Ferdinand and Anna Menzer Schank. He graduated from Coldwater High School in 1938. He was the owner of Dillons franchised Kwik Shop on West 17th Avenue, from 1964 to 1982. He had also been a Beechcraft sheet metal worker in Wichita.
He belonged to Emanuel Lutheran Church, serving in numerous church fellowship groups, the Optimist Club, Hutchinson Reno Masonic Lodge No.124 A.F.& A.M., and the Hutchinson Travel Club. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a staff sergeant with the 301st Air Depot Group, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.
On Nov. 27, 1941, he married Velma Mae Lehman in Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Debi Ellis and husband, Dennis; granddaughters, Suzette Ellis and Alisha Ellis; and great-granddaughter, Julia Ellis, all of Hutchinson.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Martin and Vernon; and four sisters, Marg, Mary Ann, his twin Roberta "Doll" and Madeline.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Emanuel Lutheran Church, with Pastor Tim Carey presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, with military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
