Robert L. "Bob" Slater, 82, died Jan. 18, 2007, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born Oct. 11, 1924, in Hutchinson, the son of Roscoe and Monzelle Logan Slater. He graduated from Wichita East High School. A longtime resident of Hutchinson, he was a retired linotype operator for The Hutchinson News
.
He belonged to the First United Methodist Church as a 60 year member, International Typographical Union, where he held several state and local offices, the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Bob Campbell Post No. 1361, Loyal Order of the Moose No. 982, and the Hutchinson Labor Temple. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II as a B-29 turret gunner.
On Sept. 15, 1946, he married Barbara Ann King in Hutchinson. She died Nov. 15, 1998.
Survivors include: a son, Rick, Wichita; a daughter, Karen Holthaus, Seneca; a brother, Gary, Roseville, Mich.; a sister, Dixie Luckett, Arvada, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ross.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Penwell Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Mark Conard presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m.
