COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Dr. Robert James "Jim" Stout, 78, died Jan. 5, 2006, at Pikes Peak Hospice, Colorado Springs, Colo.
He was born Dec. 21, 1927, in Alden, the son of William Spurgeon and Mary Elizabeth Proffitt Stout. He was a 1945 graduate of Alden High School, 1955 graduate of Ottawa University with a B.A., Ottawa, Kan., 1959 graduate of Fort Hays State University with his M.S., Hays, and received his Doctorate in School Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado in 1969, Greeley, Colo. A resident of Colorado Springs since 1964, he was a nationally certified school psychologist, retiring in 1999 after spending 42 years teaching in Alden, Sterling, McPherson and Colorado Springs.
He belonged to First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs, Colo., and many professional and educational organizations where he held numerous offices. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947 in the Occupation of Japan.
On Dec. 26, 1956, he married Katherine Frances Clapp in Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Retired Lt. Col. Mark Robert, Cheyenne, Wyo., and Dale Richard, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Nina Schafer, Sterling; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and two sisters.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, with Pastor Melvin Parrot presiding. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
