Obituary

Robert "Bob" Wayne Winslow, 97, reached his Heavenly Home on December 14, 2021, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. He was born November 4, 1924, in Hoisington, to Maurice Paul and Doris Juanita (Smith) Winslow.

Bob graduated from Pratt High School in 1942, and attended the first semester of Pratt Junior College.  He enlisted in the United States Navy in March of 1943, and retired from the United States Navy 33 years later with the rank of Senior Chief Radioman. During World War II, Bob served in the Armed Guard on Merchant Marine Ships in the South Pacific.

When the war was over, he returned to Kansas and married June Maxine Warnock on August 15, 1948, in the Partridge Community Church.  Bob and June shared 73 years together.

With their three children, they lived in Guam, Hawaii and the Philippines.  They were also stationed in the San Francisco area, San Diego, Jacksonville and Washington, D.C.  Bob was awarded several medals, including the Navy Unit Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal and the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation.  During the Korean War, Bob and his family were stationed at the Pacific Ocean Communication Headquarters in Guam. During the Vietnam War, they were stationed at the Naval Communication Headquarters in the Philippines. Bob served in three wars and served as radio operator on 10 different Navy ships.

Bob retired in April 1977, and moved back to Hutchinson where he was a member of the American Legion and a 68-year member of the Masonic Lodge.  He worked as a tool repairman for Kingsley-Wagner Supply for 10 years. Bob and June loved to travel and visited all 50 states and 18 countries.  He was a member of Park Place Christian Church serving as elder, Chairman of the Board and Adult Sunday School Teacher.  Bob was also a carpenter, electrician, plumber (when necessary) and repairman, and passed on these talents to his two sons.  He lost his eye sight to macular degeneration and was declared legally blind in 2017, and has since enjoyed "Talking Books" which he received each week from the Emporia Library for the blind.  Bob loved his grandchildren and loved to tease them, but always had M & M's candy to give them.  He loved his Lord, his family and his country.  He was always cheerful, kind and loved to make people laugh.  He will be missed by his family and his friends.
