Obituary

Roger 'Huggie Bear' Frischenmeyer, 52, died Saturday, August 11, 2018, at his  home in Hutchinson.  He was born August 24, 1965, in Hutchinson, to Beverly Joyce Cunningham (Morgan).

Roger graduated from Buhler High School in 1984 and received his Associates Degree from Hutchinson Community College in 2003.  He enjoyed being a mentor. Roger started as an  Independent Living Specialist in 2001 and then became an advocate for Prairie Independent Living Resource Center Inc. He was on the board for KYEA, a mentor at Youth Leadership Forum, board member for Disability Rights of Kansas and Kansas Assisted Technology, was a member of the National Council of Independent Living Region 7, and Kansas State Disability Mentoring Day and numerous other groups advocating for disabilities.  Roger was the founder of the Reno County Disability Mentoring Day in 2001.

Roger is survived by: brothers, Bryan and Bruce, both of Hutchinson, and AJ Frischenmeyer of Clearwater; sister, Rona Cellers (David) of Hutchinson; nephews, Jeremy, Anthony (Gabby Quinonez), Casey Frischenmeyer (Theresa), all of Hutchinson, Kris Richards of Partridge, Joshua Cellers of Hutchinson, and  Aaron Mathew Cellers of Hutchinson; nieces, Kylie and Andi Lynn Frischenmeyer, both of Joplin, MO, Heather Dawn Kortus (Adam) of Inman, Darianne Frischenmeyer of Topeka, and Chloe Frischenmeyer of Sterling; numerous great nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles; and several children he took into his care, who he dearly loved.

Roger was preceded in death by: his mother; brother, Brad Cunningham; maternal grandparents, William and Rachel Morgan; paternal grandparents, Anthony and Mary Frischenmeyer; uncle, Carl Frischenmeyer; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Cremation has taken place.  Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m.Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Atrium Hotel and Conference Center in the Endeavor Ballroom, 1400 N Lorraine St, Hutchinson, KS 67501.  Friends may sign the book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Prairie Independent Living Resource Center for Disability Mentoring Day, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501. Per Roger's request, please wear any Royals, KU or Steelers casual wear.
