Roger Lynn Gronewaller, 59, died July 20, 2006, peacefully at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 9, 1946, in Beloit, the son of Joseph Henry and Maxine Ellen Behymer Gronewaller. He attended Cawker City High School, Cawker City, prior to joining the military. A longtime Hutchinson resident, he was a plant foreman for Treatmakers, an equipment operator for the County of Reno, and a leadman for Invalco, prior to his illness.
He belonged to the Church of the Holy Cross and the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68, both in Hutchinson. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war.
On Sept. 26, 1980, he married Linda Marie Troyer in Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Jeffrey and fiancée Danielle Baytosh, and John Bayne and wife, Cheryl, all of Hutchinson; two daughters, Maxine O'Leary and husband Sean, El Cajon, Calif., and Carol Osbonlighter and husband, Bruce, Peoria, Ariz.; three brothers, Robert and wife Sheila, Omaha, Neb., Richard and wife Gitta, Topeka, and Ronald and wife, Dee, McPherson; a sister, Marge Brummer and husband, Nish, Cawker City; and five grandchildren, Ashley and Michael O'Leary, and Jonathan, Dayton and Joey Bayne.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson, with Father Joseph Eckberg presiding. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
