MEADE – Ronald K. Goering, 60, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, at his home in Meade. He was born March 16, 1956, in Pretty Prairie, to Wilbur and Edna (Slate) Goering.
Ronald graduated from Southwestern Heights High School in Kismet. He received his associates degree in Criminal Justice from Barton County Community College and his bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management from Friends University. Ronald was a private investigator. Prior to that, he worked in law enforcement for 16 years as a detective with the Liberal police department, and as an officer with the Meade, St. John, and Great Bend police departments.
He was a strong advocator for justice and defender of the weak. His passion for solving crimes was both personal and professional, and often spent his off-hours doing pro-bono work for those who could not afford a private investigator or researching unsolved crimes. He saw the world in black and white and believed that all should be treated fairly.
On Aug. 27, 1976, he married Debra Dugan in Great Bend, which resulted in divorce due to his struggle with mental illness. His pride and joy were their six children, and the families that they have established.
Survivors include: children, Edward Goering (Jessina) of St. Louis, Missouri, Adrienne Kripalani (Raj) of Corsicana, Texas, Lauren Ali (Ramy) of Los Angeles, California, Andrew Tyson (Nora) of Great Bend, Ian Goering (Stephanie) of Manhattan, Kansas, Keaton Goering of Ellinwood; five grandchildren; sister, Jeanette Branine-Chambers of Hutchinson; brothers, Norman Goering of Meade, and Robert Goering of Cimarron. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017, at First Mennonite Church, 1718 W. Pretty Prairie Road, Pretty Prairie, with Pastor Don Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may sign the book from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. The casket will remain closed.
