Obituary

Ronald Smith 'Ron' Wagerle, 82, of Hutchinson, died April 24, 2018, at Wesley Tower's Hester Care Center, Hutchinson, with Hospice of Reno County in attendance. He was born September 3, 1935, in rural Sterling, the son of Henry J. and Stella M. (Smith) Wagerle. Ron graduated from Reno Community High School in 1953. He served in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1955 and then in the reserves until 1961. Ron earned a B.S. in education from Pittsburg State University in 1961. After teaching at Oswego for six years, he received his master's in education from Pittsburg State in 1967 and began a 28-year teaching career at Parsons High School, retiring in 1995. Ron taught drafting, driver's education, and computer-aided architecture. He served as Chairman of the Department of Industrial Arts for seven years. In 1990-1991, Ron and wife Sandra Horn Wagerle were honored as Co-Teachers of the Year.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping throughout his life. Ron also officiated basketball throughout SE Kansas. After retirement, he relocated to the Kimberling City, MO, area where he served as a fishing guide and park attendant at Bass Pro Shop's Dogwood Canyon.
Ron moved to the Wesley Towers Retirement Community in 2007, where he drove for Meals on Wheels and volunteered for Hospice of Reno County. Ron also worked in the woodworking shop repairing items for the Towers and doing refinishing and repairs for other residents.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Ron married Gloria Sandeen in 1962. They later divorced.

He is survived by: daughters, Kammie Wagerle of Tulsa, OK, and Kristi Roedel (Richard) of Coweta, OK; twin grandsons, Brody and Noah Roedel; and brother, Larry and wife Sue of Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has taken place. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at the Trinity United Methodist Church columbarium. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Reno County or the church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
