Obituary

Rosalie King, 85, formerly of Manhattan, died July 23, 2024, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson.  She was born October 28, 1938, in Ulysses, to Lee Martin and Delories (Rodriguez) King.

Rosalie graduated from Grant County High School, Emporia State Teacher's College, with her bachelor's degree, and Kansas State University, with her master's degree in education.  She taught high school Spanish at Manhattan High School for 40 years. Rosalie traveled all over the world, taking her students to study abroad and learn about their Hispanic culture. Along with Margaret Beeson and Marjorie Adams, she wrote the book Memories for Tomorrow or Memorias Para Mañana.  After moving to Hutchinson to be near family, Rosalie became involved in the activities at the Delos V. Smith Senior Center, playing many games of Bridge with her new friends. Above all, Rosalie loved her family, educating others about their roots, and her Ragdoll cats.

Rosalie is survived by:  brother, John King of Ulysses; niece, Suzanne Chandley of Hutchinson and her daughters, Shannon Hendricks and Tracey Lytle; nephew, Steve King of Newton and his children, Carrie Claassen and Christopher King; nephews, Joseph Rios of Garden City and his family, Daniel Rios, Jr. of Pennsylvania and his family; and niece, Cynthia Bansemer of Wichita and her family; brother-in-law, Daniel Rios, Sr. of Ulysses; and her beloved 17-year-old Ragdoll cat, Reyna.

She was preceded in death by:  her parents; sisters, Rachel Applegate and Mary Rios; and her precious Ragdoll cat, Gracie.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Elliott Mortuary.  Friends may sign her book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at Elliott Mortuary.  Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Hutchinson Animal Shelter, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501.
