Obituary

Dr. Ross T. Shook, 90, died Aug. 10, 2010, at Hospice House in Hutchinson.

He was born March 14, 1920, in Sterling, the son of Dr. Ross O. and Lota E. Martin Shook.

He was a graduate of Sterling High School in 1938 and attended Sterling College for 1 year prior to transferring to and graduating from Kansas State University in 1941. He later attended and graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery in 1945. He did his internship at Laughlin Hospital and Kirksville Hospital in Kirksville, Mo.

Dr. Shook practiced medicine with his father beginning in 1946 and continued his practice until his retirement in 1980. Dr. Shook was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson-Reno Masonic Lodge #124 A.F. & A.M., and the Hutchinson Airport Advisory Board. He was a former member of the Wichita Median Shrine. He served on The Board of Governors for 12 years, and the Kansas Board of Healing Arts, having served as President in 1977. During World War II, Dr. Shook worked with the U.S. Army in treating soldiers returning from the South Pacific.


He married Lonnie Anderson on Oct. 4, 1957, in Angola, Indiana. She survives.

Other survivors include: sons, Randy Shook and wife Denice, Denver, Colo., Roger Shook and wife Ellen, Lakewood, Colo., and Lyle Anderson and wife Rose, Palmer, Alaska; a nephew, Preston Stahly and wife Linda, New York City; a niece, Susan Koeneke and husband Mike, New Vernon, New Jersey; Grandchildren, Kristie Siedleck and husband Tim, and Laurie Dickinson and husband Jeff, all of Denver, Colo., and Travis Shook and Courtney Shook, both of Lakewood, Colo.

Dr. Shook was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Joyce Stahly.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at Elliott Mortuary with Rev. Mark Conard presiding. A private family interment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. The family will greet friends prior to the service. The casket will remain closed. A register book can be signed at the funeral home 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas Association of Osteopathic Medicine or the Hospice House of Hospice and Homecare of Reno County, or the Wesley Tower Foundation-Good Samaritan Fund, all sent in care of the Elliott Mortuary.
