Obituary

Roy Phillip "Phil" Christensen, 89, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013, after a lengthy illness. He was born Jan. 13, 1924, in Hutchinson, the son of Roy Abry and Sophia Ann Walters Christensen.

He was a 1941 graduate of Hutchinson High School, a member of First Baptist Church, a veteran of the 450th Army Air Force, a member of Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, 32nd Degree Mason, Midian Shriners, Wichita, Reno County Shrine Club and the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68. Phil was with Dillon Warehouse for 34 years, retiring in 1980 as superintendent of the produce department.

Phil was an avid golfer, especially at Carey Park. He and Betty enjoyed wintering at Sunland Village East in Mesa, Ariz.

On Sept. 1, 1946, he married Betty Arlene Schroeder in Hutchinson. She survives.

Also surviving is a daughter, Lori Christensen and husband Blake, Hutchinson; two sisters-in-law, Glenna Hall and husband Walter and Faye Watson, both of Mesa, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Maxine Christensen.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday, June 10, 2013, at Elliott Chapel with the Rev. Tyler Vance officiating. Burial with military honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. Visitation from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
