Royal Eugene Perkins, 99, died Nov. 29, 2016, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson. He was born Dec. 14, 1916, in Smith County, to Wesley Guy and Myrtle E. (Breon) Perkins. Royal was a farmer, mechanic, and carpenter. He enjoyed playing bingo, pitch, and bowling. According to his wife, Royal was a jack of all trades and a master of them all.
On April 27, 1941, he married Eugenia Lucile Putnam in Portis, KS. She died March 12, 2014.
Royal is survived by: son, Melvin Perkins of Glenwood Springs, CO; daughters, Dee Simmons and husband Calvin of Wichita, Shelley Whisler and husband Doug of Hutchinson; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Perkins; and grandson, Andrew Whisler.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial service will be 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, at Wesley Towers Chapel, 3709 Asbury Drive, Hutchinson, with Chaplain Jim Bush presiding. Burial will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016, in Crystal Plains Cemetery, Smith Center, KS. Friends may sign the memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
