Ruben C. Garibay, 80, died Nov. 26, 2005, in Hutchinson Hospital ICU.
He was born June 16, 1925, in Zamora, Mexico, the son of Jesus Joseph and Concepcion Cazarez Garibay. He was a graduate of East High School, Wichita, and Wichita State University. He attended Austin College. A Pratt resident since 1999, moving to Hutchinson in June, he had a career in military, working in intelligence and retiring as a Major.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pratt; American Legion, Wichita; and coached youth tennis. He served the U.S. Army, Air Force and Reserves during World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
Survivors include: two brothers, Charles Garibay, Kingman, and Toby Garibay, Las Vegas; two sisters, Helen Coon, Kingman, and Esther Davis, South Hutchinson.
He was preceded in death by infant twin siblings, Florentino and Haventino Garibay; and a brother, Benjamin Garibay.
Parish rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pratt. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with Father Gregory S. LeBlanc presiding. Graveside service will be in Harper City Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, all at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
