Ruby May Reed Showalter, 89, died Feb. 24, 2007, at Golden Plains Health Care Center, Hutchinson.

She was born April 13, 1917, near Nickerson, the daughter of Harry C. and Tina Emma Downs Reed. She was a graduate of Partridge High School. A resident of Hutchinson most of her life, she was a seamstress and worked in several businesses as well as making clothing for her family. She also was a custodial assistant at Trinity United Methodist Church for 20 years, retiring in 1983.

She was an active member for more than 75 years in both the Nickerson Christian Church and First Christian Church of Hutchinson, where she kept the membership record for 25 years.

On Feb. 9, 1947, she married Glen Arnold Showalter in Hutchinson. He died Sept. 30, 1992.

Survivors include: a son, David Glen, Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Marieta May Showalter Wannen and husband, Rich, Fairway; a brother, Harvey L. Reed, Hutchinson; and a sister, Bessie Reed Burling, Arlington.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Elza L. Reed; and two sisters, Mabel E. Reed Basemann and Lettie L. Reed Newman.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastors John Warring and Melvin Walton presiding. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson.
