HUMBOLDT - Ruby M. Smith Randall, 92, died Aug. 5, 2008, at the Pine Crest Nursing Home, Humboldt.
She was born Nov. 14, 1915, in Adair, Okla., the daughter of George W. and Clara M. Watters Smith. The family moved to Kansas in 1924, and Ruby graduated from Valley Center High School and the Kansas School of Cosmetology. She worked in her own shop in Valley Center before moving to Wichita in 1947.
On Aug. 18, 1940, she married John Messenger. She then married Paul Randall on Oct. 14, 1963. He died July 8, 1998.
She was a member of Ashland United Methodist Church and of Faith United Methodist Church in Hutchinson, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. She taught Second Grade Sunday School at Valley Center Methodist Church and weekday Bible School at Woodland Methodist Church in Wichita. She was a member of Circle of Friends Club.
She is survived by: sons, John W. Messenger, Humboldt, and Robert R. Messenger, Wichita; two stepsons, Don H. Randall, California, and Keith Randall, Ashland; six grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren; and one sister, Ottalie Case, Hutchinson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Randall, brothers, Robert T. Smith, Lloyd Smith, James Smith, and sisters Wilma Wilson and Evelyn Maphett and one step-grandson Don "Randy" Randall.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at Elliott Chapel with Pastor Ron Kite presiding. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. till service on Friday at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Bentley.
