Russell Carl McKinney, 93, died Oct. 28, 2016, at Good Samaritan Society, Hutchinson. He was born April 8, 1923, in Elk County, to Buford and Lillian (Bennitt) McKinney.

Russell graduated from Elk Falls Rural High School in 1941. He lived in Rose Hill, Chetopa, and Fredonia, before moving to Hutchinson. Russell worked for Boeing and retired as the owner of a variety store in Chetopa. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Moline, Kansas, and New Covenant Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson.

On Nov. 23, 1956, he married Evelyn L. Smiley in Howard. She died Jan. 5, 2013. Survivors include: sister, Zora Johnson of Hutchinson; nieces, Tracie Johnson (Curtis) of Little River, Ronna Olivier of Manhattan, Kan.; nephews, Russell Johnson (Vicki) of Inman, Jim Ohl of Oklahoma; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Martin; brother-in-law, Ronald C. Johnson; niece-in-law, Kay Ohl; and nephew-in-law, Michael Olivier.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016, in El Paso Cemetery, 700 E. Kay, Derby, with Chaplain Randall Turner officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Society, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N.
