November 1, 1934 – March 8, 2023
Russell Hindle Pope, 88, went from his earthly home to his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 8, 2023. He was born November 1, 1934, in Kansas City, MO, to Thomas Hindle Pope and Flora Virginia (Brock) Pope.
Russell was a 1953 graduate of Northeast High School, Kansas City, MO, and a 1957 graduate of the University of Kansas. He attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Kansas City, MO, to obtain a teaching certificate.
Russell worked as a civil engineer at Borton, Inc., Hutchinson, KS, retiring in 1996. He enjoyed the fellowship of his brothers and sisters in Christ at Hutchinson Gospel Chapel. Russell especially enjoyed gardening and nature. Trees and irises were among his favorite natural interests. He was also fond of bird watching.
On June 27, 1959, Russell married Golda Marie Walker, in Overland Park, KS. They shared over 63 years of marriage.
He is survived by: his wife, Golda Pope of Hutchinson, KS; children, Mary (John) Denny of Hutchinson, KS, Rachel (Paul) Wakefield of Hutchinson, KS, Matthew (Elaine) Pope of Hutchinson, KS, Ellen (David) Stebbings of Attleboro, MA, James (Wendy) Pope of Hutchinson, KS, and Steve (Kara) Pope of Colorado Springs, CO; 19 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren. He was blessed and grateful to have such a large and loving family. Russell was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life service will be 12 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Hutchinson Gospel Chapel, 2005 Hendricks Street, Hutchinson, KS, with Andrew Hawkinson officiating. A private family burial will be at Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, KS.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kansas Bible Camp, in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
The family would like to acknowledge the nurses from Traditions Health & Hospice for their compassionate and loving care.
