BURRTON - Ruth Maxine Matlack, 89, died Dec. 9, 2006, at her home, Burrton.
She was born Nov. 6, 1917, in Geneseo, the daughter of Fred Hay and Elva Noral Bennett Workman. She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1935, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, attended Hutchinson Community College and graduated from the former Hutchinson School of Cosmetology. A resident of Burrton since 1940, she was a homemaker and hairdresser.
She belonged to United Methodist Church of Burrton, United Methodist Women, and a weekly quilting group and served on the funeral luncheon committee since 1974, all at the church, was a Burrton school board member, and belonged to several other women's groups, including a coffee group she had attended for more than 50 years, recently meeting at the Village Inn.
On Oct. 14, 1940, she married Raymond M. Matlack at her parents' home, Hutchinson. He died Dec. 23, 1989.
Survivors include: a son, Jerry, Hutchinson; a daughter, Rae Jean Matlack, Denver; a sister, Jeanne Holder and husband, Max, Pueblo, Colo.; a grandson, Jeff and his wife, Brenda, Gardner; a great-grandson, Justin, Gardner; and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Parker Workman; and a grandson, Scott.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Larry Ankrom presiding. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Burrton Cemetery.
