OVERLAND PARK – Ruth Powell, 100, died May 30, 2014, at Delmar Gardens of Overland Park. She was born April 2, 1914, in Hutchinson to Thomas and Clara Miller. She was a homemaker. She was married to Kenneth Chappel who preceded her in death in 1965. She later married Ralph Powell who preceded her in death in 1991.

Survivors include: son, Jerry Chappel and wife Julia, Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandson, Todd Chappel and wife Eva, Lenexa; two great-grandchildren, Dominik and Alexander Chappel, Lenexa; niece, Cindy Turner, Hutchinson; and three nephews, Tom Miller, and Mervin Miller Jr, Hutchinson, and Gary Spence, Lyons.

Ruth was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amber Chappel.


Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Jim Rhaesa officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
