Sally J.D. McNelis-Stramel, 80, died Jan. 1, 2016, at Hospice House. She was born Dec. 16, 1935, in Welch, Okla., to Ira E. "Pat" and Opal Olivia (Rogers) McNelis. She graduated from Welch High School in Oklahoma and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson.
Sally was a mother to all who knew her. She opened her home to her children's friends who were always welcomed and loved. Ever important to Sally was her heritage and she was proud to be a member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. She was also an avid reader, and appreciated her friends at the Pretty Prairie Library.
Survivors include: sons, Mike (Tammie) of South Hutchinson, Patrick (Pam) of Herrington, and Timothy of Sheridan, Wyo.; daughters, Theresa Thompson (Mike) of Scott City, Sharon Monroe (Gerald) of Dodge City, and Becki Stramel of LaPorte, Texas; daughter-in-law, Peg Stramel of Wichita; sisters, Jean Mobley of South Hutchinson and Pat Christenson of Miami, Okla.; special niece, Patti Owens of Claremore, Okla.; 19 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Anthony (Roger) Stramel; one sister; and three brothers.
Cremation has taken place. Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at Elliott Chapel. Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at Elliott Chapel, with Father Ned J. Blick officiating. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Castleton. Friends may sign the book today from 9 a.m.to 5 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, 67501. Memorials may be made to the Sally J.D. McNelis-Stramel Memorial Fund.
