Samuel "Russell" Baggett, 90, died Jan. 17, 2007, at Dillon Living Center.
He was born Nov. 24, 1916, in Sterling, the son of Samuel and Bess Phillips Baggett. He attended schools in Sterling. A resident of Hutchinson, formerly of Sterling, and Ft. Smith, Ark., he was a retired switchman for Santa Fe Railroad.
He was baptized in the Baptist Church, belonged to Prairie Dunes Country Club, and was an avid golfer. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, as a communications officer serving in Bora Bora.
On Dec. 31, 1951, he married Florence V. "Flo" Hoskinson in Hutchinson. She died July 5, 1994.
Survivors include: a daughter, Cynthia Doyle, Hutchinson; and two granddaughters, Madison and Ashley Doyle, both of Hutchinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Hazel Richards and Maxine Shimmel.
Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Eastside Cemetery, with Pastor Eldon Smith presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
