Samuel D. 'Sam' Nisly, 90, died May 29, 2019, at his home. He was born October 18, 1929, in Hutchinson, the son of Daniel M. and Elizabeth 'Lizzie' (Borntrager) Nisly. Sam was a co-founder of Prairie Construction. He was very involved in prison ministry, serving as an M2 sponsor with Offender/Victim Ministries.

Sam was a member at Center Amish Mennonite Church, Hutchinson. He was also a member of Gideons International, sang with the Kansas Mennonite Men's Chorus and Reno Choral Society, and in his later years volunteered with Hands of Christ Ministries.

On May 22, 1955, Sam married Esther Pauline Nisly in Partridge. They shared 64 years of marriage. She survives.

Also surviving are: children, Sheryl Nisly-Nagele (Ken), Monticello, IL; Jana Nisly, El Salvador; Melody Nisly, Abbyville; Arlyn Nisly (Brenda), Partridge; Wendell Nisly (Jeanene) Harrisonburg, VA; brother, Harvey Nisly, Hutchinson; sister, Anna Coblentz, Lamar, MO; grandchildren, Elizabeth Ross (Tyler), Daniel and Douglas Nisly-Nagele, Braden, Chalonna, Clarisa, and Jeriah Nisly; one great-grandchild on the way; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Roman, Perry, Mahlon; sisters, Fannie Helmuth, Clara, Barbara, and Mandy Nisly.

Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2019, at Center Amish Mennonite Church, 7213 W. Mills Ave., with Pastors Gary Miller, Paul W. Nisly, and David Yoder officiating. Burial will follow in West Center Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2019, at the church.
