CASTLETON – Sarah Lois Kagarice, 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 18, 2015, at Sterling Presbyterian Manor. She was born Feb. 9, 1922, in rural Washington County, Kan., to Calvin and Julia (Ditmars) Gauby.
Lois graduated from Washington High School in 1940, and from McPherson College in 1945, with her bachelor's degree in English and Home Economics. She taught at Castleton High School for three years. Lois was a member of Castleton Union Church, Sunday School Superintendent for children, and Women's Missionary Society. She was a longtime leader of the Castleton 4-H Club.
On June 6, 1948, she married Marlin E. Kagarice in Washington, Kan. He died March 21, 2005. Lois is survived by: daughters, Kay Heller and husband Loren of Hunter, Nancy Wichert and husband Gaylen of Buhler, Janet Caywood and husband Steve of Sterling, Gail Flickner and husband Greg of Kingman; grandchildren, Marlene (Lance) Nelson, Lori (Brandon) Back, Joy (Nathan) Smith, Jonathan Heller, Stephanie (Gerald) Ostapko, Anthony (Becky) Wichert, Craig (Sarah) Wichert, Todd (Becky) Caywood, Capt. Mark (Allison) Caywood, U.S.A.F., Ethan Flickner, Alison Flickner, Abby Flickner; great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Colton, Kenna Back, Hannah, Gideon, Noah Nelson, Adilynn Smith, Anna Ostapko, Nevaeh, Wyatt, Riley Wichert; and sisters-in-law, Donna Magnuson and husband Claire of Hutchinson, Dorothy Gauby of Washington, Kan. She was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Roy Gauby; sister, Gladys Cornett and husband Francis; and infant son, John.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 22, 2015, at Castleton Union Church, Castleton, with Pastor Robert Ulrich officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Darlow. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
