Obituary

Sarah Iolene Turner, 79, of Hutchinson, died peacefully in her sleep on September 11, 2018. She was born June 6, 1939, in Dodge City, the daughter of Roy E. Rankin and Goldie (Smith) Rankin. Iolene spent her childhood years in the Larned/Great Bend area, graduating from Larned High School in 1957 and Wilcox Beauty Academy in 1958.

On October 18, 1959, she married Melvin Turner at Larned. They lived briefly in Larned before moving to Great Bend, where she owned and managed Iolene's Beauty Shop. In 1970, the family moved to Hutchinson where Iolene began a career with Kwik Shop and Dillon Stores accounting office, eventually retiring in 2003, after 17 years of service.

Iolene was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church where she was involved in Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (WELCA) and the Christian Friends Fellowship. Together, Iolene and Melvin started the Buhler High School Crusader Booster Club. Iolene's activities reflected her bedrock foundation comprised of spiritual faith, family, and eternal optimism.

Iolene is survived by: her husband of almost 59 years, Melvin of Hutchinson; two sons, Mike (Roel Rodriguez) of Austin, TX, Jeff of Hutchinson; two daughters, Stacie Duncan (Wayne) of Hutchinson, Tona Schekall (Michael) of Wichita; nephew/son, Tim Lane of Larned; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Joyce Rankin of Larned; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; three brothers, Roy Jr. (Maxine), Leland, and Leon; and two sisters, Marie Hammer (Howard) and Elaine Fulton.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, September 15, 2018, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 140 E. 30th Avenue, Hutchinson, with Pastor Tim Carey officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary, with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
