Sherry Joleen Brooks, 92, of Hutchinson, died August 7, 2026, at Good Samaritan Society-Hutchinson Village. She was born January 12, 1934, in Hutchinson, to Reed Q. and Ida M. (Coberly) Smith.
Sherry graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1952 and received her associates degree from Hutchinson Junior College. She was primarily a homemaker and her greatest joy was in being a mom and grandmother. Sherry also worked as a secretary for Great American Life Insurance in Hutchinson and a couple of local attorneys. She was an avid reader and loved cooking and baking, and flower gardening. Sherry was a member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church.
On June 12, 1955, she married Jess W. Brooks, in Hutchinson. They shared 71 years of marriage.
Sherry is survived by her loving husband, Jess of Hutchinson; children, Matt Brooks and wife Shelly of Hutchinson, Julie Waetke and husband Craig of Hutchinson, Tom Brooks of Overland Park, David Brooks of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Jessica Liebe and husband Kyle, Jennifer Yacona and husband Sean, Sophia Brooks, Grace Brooks, Seth Brooks, Madelyn Brooks, Holden Brooks, Evey Brooks, Jesse Brooks; great-grandchildren, Mae Liebe, Freddy Liebe; and many extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Roy, Wallace, Carol, and Ron.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2026, at New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 700 E 25th Ave., Hutchinson, with Reverend Craig Waetke officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at New Covenant Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to New Covenant Presbyterian Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Christian Broadcasting Network, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
