Shirley L. Mann, 97, died Nov. 12, 2011, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson.

She was born July 19, 1914, in Hutchinson, to Walter and Louise Wood Jones.

Shirley was very special. She truly cared deeply about people and was accepting and forgiving of everyone. Shirley graduated from KU in journalism, was a Pi Beta Phi sorority member, held a national office and was a 75 year diamond member with Pi Beta Phi. She also belonged to P.E.O. and was a life-long member of Grace Episcopal Church. Shirley was a loving wife and mother.

She married Robert E. Mann, Sr., in 1938, in Hutchinson. He died February 2000.

She is survived by her son, Robert Mann, Jr., and wife Kathy, Boulder, Colo.; grandson, John Mann and wife Stacy; great-granddaughters, Tori and Sarah Mann, all of Hutchinson; and sister-in-law, Harriet Jones, Scott City, Kan.

We will truly miss her. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, at Grace Episcopal Church, 2 Hyde Park, with the Rev. Larry Steadman officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday with the family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, Hospice Care of Kansas, or Wesley Towers Good Samaritan Fund, in care of the mortuary
