Shirley Arlene McClure, 79, died June 26, 2009, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
She was born August 20, 1929, in rural Marion County near Peabody, the daughter of Stanley Perlee and Hazel Evalina VanTuyl McClave.
Shirley attended Peabody Grade School and graduated from Peabody High School in 1947. She then graduated from Kansas City Secretarial School in 1948. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Koehn Associates Construction Company in Newton for 21 years. A former resident of Peabody and Newton, she moved to Hutchinson in 2007. Shirley loved to travel and was an avid quilter and bowler. She also volunteered for the National Parks in Colorado and at Dillon Living Center, Hutchinson.
On March 13, 1948, she married Lawrence Glen McClure at the Baptist church in Newton. He survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Chris Hughes and husband Jack, Palmer, Alaska; a son, Michael K. McClure and wife Marcie McKinnell, Hutchinson; four grandchildren, Trisha (Hughes) Witmer, Minneapolis, Minn., Tracy (Hughes) Tracy, Wasilla, Alaska, Cory Hughes, Palmer, Alaska, and Derek Hughes, Indianapolis, Ind.; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a twin brother, Donald Gene McClave.
Memorial graveside service will be10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 7th at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Peabody. Cremation has taken place.
