Shirley Ann Stewart died Sept. 17, 2014, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson. She was born March 23, 1936, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Cecil and Kathryn (Fleming) Mendenhall.

She was a longtime Hutchinson resident and a retired bookkeeper. She was an avid bowler and had a real passion for quilting and had designed many patterns.

On May 17, 1954, she married Roland W. Stewart in Topeka. He preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include: two sons, Ralph W. (Connie) and Robert A. (Janice), both of Hutchinson; two daughters, Debra L. (Beuford) Rook and Lori A. (Carl) Bennett, both of Clay Center; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
Shirley bequeathed her body to KU Medical Center. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
