Sr. Agatha Faimon, 98, peacefully returned to the arms of her Creator on September 24th, 2026 while residing at The Wesley Hester Care Living Center. Agatha was born April 20th, 1928, on the family farm in Stratton NE to Mary and Bohumil Faimon. She was given the name Agnes Mary at birth, attended country grade school and even ran away from home a couple of times!

Agatha’s high school and college consisted of attending Notre Dame Academy in Omaha, Creighton University, University of North Dakota, Catholic University – Washington DC, University of Notre Dame – Indiana and University of Humanistic Studies- San Diego where she completed a master’s degree in Spiritual Direction. She reported that she ‘tried to be good’ and ‘to be loved’!

Agatha dedicated herself to God’s call by becoming a candidate, postulant and novitiate, with first and final vows, earning the title Sr. Agatha Mary Faimon, through the order of Sisters of Notre Dame. Her initial mission entailed teaching the Ogalla Sioux in Porcupine South Dakota as well as in various parishes in Nebraska. Then, moving to San Diego, she delved into the spirited African American inner-city community of Christ the King Church from 1963-1976. Here, the Spirit led her to transfer her calling as a Notre Dame sister to becoming a member of the Community of the Holy Spirit in San Diego. She was the eldest member in her community but bonded closely to her remaining sisters in Christ, trying to ZOOM with them once a month.

In 1982-1999, Sr. served as a pastoral associate at Our Lady Queen of Angels, Newport Beach, CA. Her involvement focused on evangelization, returning Catholics, Bible Study, hospitality, prayer groups and spiritual direction. Her experiences led her on various pilgrimages in several countries. Her deepest treasure was to meet, pray and stand beside Saint Mother Theresa. Their smiles illuminated two who lived the same concept of discipleship.

In 2001, upon Sr.’s retirement, she relocated to Hutchinson, KS to live with her younger sister, Rosie Pianalto. Together, they shared childhood memories, laughed, cried, yelled Bingo! , argued and spoke the Bohemian language with each other until they burst at the seams with mispronunciations because of their dentures!

However, once in Kansas, Sr. did not ‘retire’ from discipleship. Within the Hutchinson Catholic Community, her involvement glowed through Bible Study, Faith and Light, Harvest House, Cursillo, St. Vincent de Paul, OCIA, daily Mass and covering countless hours with Jesus in Perpetual Adoration.

After losing her sister, Sr. Agatha lived 5 years alone, enjoying the wonderful parishioners who daily assisted her in many ways. In 2025, following several falls, Sr. resided at the Wesley Hester Living Center where she continued to minister to residents as well as to the nurses.

She so bravely taught us to take the Word of God from our lips to our lives; from prayer groups to the parking lot; from the pulpit to the people and from the Church home to our homes.

She is survived by nieces/nephews: Mary Ellen Pianalto, Jeanette/Bill Hermes, Tony/Wanda Pianalto, Ed/Sheila Pianalto, Leonard/Judy Faimon, Mary Faimon, Rita/Don Otis, Donna/Jeff Fromm, Tom/Terri Faimon, Dan/Deana Faimon, Bruce/Deb Faimon, Barb Faimon , many great nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends.

Sr. was preceded in death by her parents, Bohumil and Mary Faimon, her brothers Rudy/Rose Marie Faimon, Rich/Mona Faimon and her beloved sister, Rosie/Charles Pianalto, nephews Jim Faimon, and Joe Pianalto along with his wife Shirley Lager Pianalto and great nieces Anne and Jennifer and Mona Faimon.

May Agatha rest securely in the loving arms of the God she so faithfully served.

Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2026, at St. John’s Cemetery, Rawlins County.
