Obituary

Stanley Miles "Stan" Tennant, 80, died Aug. 6, 2009, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.

He was born Feb. 17, 1929, in Lerado, the son of James Otis and Modena Maude Whetstone Tennant.

A 1947 graduate of Hutchinson High School, he was of the Protestant faith.

From 1956 until his retirement in 1979, he worked for the Hutchinson Police Department, retiring as Sergeant. In 1980, he went to work with Menninger Foundation, Topeka, as an electrician. From 1986 to 1996 he was an electrician for the State of Kansas, Topeka. He had previously worked for Bond Bakery and was a Deputy Sheriff for Crawford County Sheriff Department.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #982, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2550, Kansas Peace Officers Association, Retired Police and Fire Association and the Volunteer Police Patrol. Stan loved fishing and spending his free time tinkering and fixing clocks and television sets, among other things.

On May 9, 1949, he married Maddelon Louise Clements in Hutchinson. She died Dec. 4, 1995. On Nov. 2, 2000 he married Charline "Charlie" Walsten in Morris Plains, N.J. She died May 29, 2003. On June 8, 2009, he married Juleta Ann Siemens in Inman. She survives.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Rita L. Roszel, Burrton; sister, Norma J. Friesen, Inman; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stephen M. Tennant; brother, James O. Tennant II; sisters, Georgia Battey, Thelma Wessel and Lola T. Battey.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday, with the family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. both days, all at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Cremation will follow.

Memorials may be sent to the Volunteer Police Department in care of the mortuary.
