Stephen "Steve" Eugene Thompson, 74, passed away December 2, 2010, at Hospice House.
He was born March 1, 1936 at Cumberland, Maryland, the son of Randal Oliver and Pearl McDonald Thompson.
He graduated in 1955, from Fort Hill High School, Cumberland, Maryland, arrived in Hutchinson in 1959 while serving in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at the Naval Base south of Hutchinson, was a member of Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson, a carpenter by trade and had mainly worked for Foy, Ewing and Goss Construction Companies and retired from Hutchinson Correctional Facility as a carpenter in June 2000.
On September 9, 1961 he married Carolyn Sue Hoffman at St. Teresa's Catholic Church, Hutchinson. She died November 11, 2002.
Other survivors include five children, Timothy Stephen, Lyons, Mark Randall and wife Marlena, Hutchinson, Pamela Kay and husband Richard DeBowes, Pullman, Washington, Douglas Matthew, Wichita, Michelle Suzanne Thompson, Hutchinson, ten grandchildren; Jordan, Ben and Bryndi Thompson, Kaylin Myers, Andrew and Laura DeBowes, Cory and Cassie Sherbon, Carly Thompson, two great grandchildren; Leyna Sherbon and Maddyx Ramey. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Jacob Matthew.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 10, 2010 at Elliott Mortuary Chapel with Father Joseph Eckberg officiating. Military graveside honors will conducted by McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum. Friends may call 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday with a 7:00 p.m., Thursday Rosary all at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of Reno County.
