Obituary

Steven Dale "Steve" Hansen, 68, died September 30, 2026 at his daughter's home in Livingston, Montana. He was born May 21, 1958 in Hutchinson, KS, to Dale L. Hansen and Dixie L. (Mall) Hansen.

Steve was raised in Turon, KS and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1976 and Dodge City Community College in 1978, where he made the basketball team as a walk-on.

On June 1, 1978, Steve and Joe Stucky embarked on a two-month road trip to Alaska, a trip he would later say changed his life. He lived in Colorado for a couple years, before returning to Kansas where he worked at Leech Products in Hutchinson. Steve was certified in HVAC before moving to Montana, where he lived in Poplar and Eureka for many years. Steve loved the great outdoors and he felt fortunate to live in the astounding beauty that was Montana. In his free time, Steve stayed active by playing basketball, volleyball and golf. He was a big Kansas Jayhawks fan. He was a storyteller and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life - a bonfire under the stars, 70's classic rock, reading a good book, catching the sunrise or sunset, and fishing whether in a farm pond or on the Yellowstone and Boulder rivers in Montana. His family will miss his dry sense of humor and the love they all shared.

Steve moved back to Turon in 2019. For the last several years, he spent many months during the summer and fall in and around Livingston, MT, camping, fishing, and his greatest joy - enjoying time with his daughter Kate and her family. His favorite role was that of Grandpa. Steve adored Jules and Luke and treasured every moment he spent with them.

He is survived by: his daughter, Kate Hansen-Armstrong and husband Emmanuel; grandchildren, Juliana and Luke Armstrong, all of Livingston, MT; father, Dale L. Hansen (Chris) of Turon, KS; mother Dixie (Mall) Lockey (B.J.) of Port Charlotte, FL; siblings Kelly Loudenback (Darrell Walker) of Hutchinson, KS, Lana Dwyer (Darren) of Prairie Village, KS, Brett Hansen (Meagan) and Cheyenne Hansen-Marlow (Nathan) of Lawrence, KS; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, numerous cousins, and lifelong friend, Joe Stucky of Montrose, CO.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, A. Wayne and Mary Hansen, George and Erlene Mall; and nephew, Chase Loudenback.

Cremation has taken place and arrangements will be announced at a later date.
