Sybil M. Stanley, 81, died Dec. 4, 2008, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
She was born Feb. 12, 1927, in Sturkie, Ark., the daughter of Marvin Luther and Hallie Irene Witt Shannon. She was raised in West Plains, Mo. A longtime resident of Hutchison, she was the retired owner and operator of Jackrene Rooms; she later boarded and cared for elderly out of her home.
She belonged to The Father's House.
On Sept. 25, 1979, she married Wesley O. "Sonny" Stanley in Hutchinson. He died April 3, 2004.
Survivors include: three daughters, Wanda Garcia and husband Rodolfo "Rudy", Hazel Jackson and Betty Simpson, all of Hutchinson; a brother, Jim Shannon, West Plains, Mo.; five sisters, Kathleen "Kas" Wheeler and Virginia Sue Bell, both of Hutchinson, Bertha "Tiny" Elliott and Linda Fox, both of West Plains, Mo., and Sandra Newnam, Washington, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, James "Jimmy" Farra; a daughter, Dorina Mendoza; four brothers, Rand, Ray, Johnny and Doug Shannon; and two sisters, Pearlie Smith and Laurie Norman.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Brett Hill presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the mortuary. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson.
