Sydney L. Rhodes' Obituary
Sydney L. Rhodes, 66, died Sept. 14, 2006 at Hutchinson Hospital after a 31/2 year battle with cancer.
She was born Dec. 24, 1939 in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Wilbur Deen Merill and Barbara Lee Vauter Fling. She graduated from Dodge City High School and Dodge City Community College and received her bachelor's degree in elementary education and library science from Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia. A recent Hutchinson resident, moving from Great Bend, she was a school librarian and taught Sunday School and organized church libraries.
She belonged to Central Baptist Church, Great Bend and was on staff at First Baptist Church, Hutchinson.
On August 18, 1962, she married Gordon Rhodes in Dodge City. He survives.
Other survivors include: a sister, Gene Michaele Beyer, Seal Rock, Ore. and several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday at First Baptist Church, Hutchinson. Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at College Hill Cemetery, rural Dickenson County, with Pastor Gary Salmans and the Rev. John Grummon presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church, in care of the mortuary, Hutchinson.
