Sylvia Blanche Proffitt, 84, died Nov. 25, 2011. She was born Nov. 8, 1927, in Bluefield, W. Va., the daughter of Thurman and Alice Scarberry Hambrick.
She married James Henry Proffitt on Sept. 7, 1945, in Tazwell, Va. He passed away on Oct. 16, 2009.
Other survivors include: son, Stephen and his wife Donna of Lane, Kan.; daughters, Brenda Haulman and her husband Dennis, Diana Abney and her husband George, all of Hutchinson, Judy Emerson and Susan Proffitt, both of Denver, Colo.; sister, Emmogene Farrey of Charleston, SC; brother, Harold Hambrick of Bluefield, W. Va.; foster daughter Alice Diefendorf and her husband John of Pueblo, CO, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four brothers; three sisters; and two grandchildren, Crystal Abney and Matthew Abney.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Richard Haley presiding. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, at Elliott Mortuary, with the family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Reno County, in care of the mortuary.
