Obituary

Teresa Jan Dwyer, 83, died September 10, 2026. She was born February 8, 1943, in Wichita, to William Clark and Olive Aileen (Kissick) Anderson.

Jan graduated in 1961 from Bellaire High School in Houston, Texas, and received her bachelor’s degree from Southwestern College, Winfield in 1965. She married Gary Girard and had two sons: Greg and Scott. She was an elementary school teacher in Winfield, Conway Springs, and Hutchinson. For a period of time after retirement, she was a teacher’s aide for Buhler Public Schools. Jan was an avid Kansas State University and Kansas City Royal’s fan and enjoyed watching all sports. She was most passionate about her faith and family. Jan was a member of Grace Bible Church, Hutchinson, with the Bible as her favorite book to read daily. She cherished time with her family as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and had a special bond with her five grandchildren.

On December 23, 1997, she married Edward Lee “Ed” Dwyer, in Hutchinson. They shared nearly 23 years of marriage before his death on December 1, 2020.

Jan is survived by: her two sons, Greg Girard (Karla) of Manhattan and Scott Girard (Jolie) of Meade; grandchildren, Alayna Girard, Elise Girard, Chelsey LeClear, Christine Fly (Harrison), and Holden Girard (Madeline); great-grandchildren, Jessie Fly and Josie Fly; brother, Thomas Jeffrey “Jeff” Anderson (Rogene) of Lawrence; sister, Jill Foss of Wichita; and stepchildren, Ann Dwyer, Cheryl Davis (Chuck), Renee Barras; and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Christine “Joan” Strano and her husband Dick; brother-in-law, Doug Foss; and stepson, Jim Dwyer.

Memorial service will be Thursday, September 24, 2026 at 10:30 AM in the Fireside Chapel at Grace Bible Church, 1221 E. 33rd, Hutchinson, with Pastor Chuck Lambert officiating. Private inurnment will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery, Mount Hope. Friends may sign her memorial book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday through Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to The Wesley or Grace Bible Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
