August 16, 1930 – January 8, 2022
Theodore H. Rhodes, 91, of Hutchinson, passed away peacefully, January 8, 2022, at Hospice House, surrounded by family. Ted was born August 16, 1930, in Oregon City, Oregon, to Theodore and Hilda (Bredensteiner) Rhodes.
Ted married Betty Carlisle of Tarkio, Missouri, on December 24, 1948, in Tarkio.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Ted worked for Southwestern Bell (AT&T) from 1950 to 1987, taking him to Rockport, Missouri, Pratt, Winfield and Hutchinson, Kansas, retiring from AT&T in Houston, Texas after 37 years.
He held many memberships, including: Masonic Blue Lodge, Kilwinning #265 Pratt; The Order of Eastern Star, Lorraine Chapter #39, Medicine Lodge, Chapter #34 Reno County, Council #13, Hutchinson; Reno Cmdry #26 Knights Templar, Sterling; BPOE #11, Stafford, Texas; The Telephone Pioneers. Past memberships include: the Scottish Rite, Shriners, and The American Legion.
Ted was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; parents, Theodore and Hilda Rhodes; brothers, Charles and Phillip Rhodes; sisters, Carolyn Luna, Mary Gabbert, Hazel Wesley; and daughter, Nancy Gilmore.
He is survived by his children, Pam Brett, Melinda Mitchell (Roger), Rory Rhodes (Carol), Phyllis Skinner (Steve); son-in-law, Mike Gilmore; grandchildren, Jeff Gilmore (Shannon), Jennifer Hughes, Troy Brett, Amy Wray (Ryan), Tyler and Trevor Rhodes (Lauren), Cody, Cole (Lisa),and Carson Skinner, David O'Neal (Tammy); 15 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; sister, Martha Hunter; brother-in-law, Howard Carlisle (Shay); sister-in-law, Vicki Rhodes; numerous nieces, nephews, friends; and his beloved dog, Karter.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary. A private family burial will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt, Kansas. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, at Elliott Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hutchinson Hospice House or Lemon Park Lights in Pratt, Kansas, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
