Obituary

Thomas (Tom) Sheahan Myers, of Wichita, was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and made his final earthly ride to join his Savior in Heaven on April 26, 2016. He was born May 23, 1924 in Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents Alva D. and Florence Alberta Myers, his brothers Chuck and David and his sister Lucille. He is survived by his wife Barbara (Bobbi) A. Durey Myers, son Thomas (Tommy) Myers/wife Vici, daughter Christina Peterson/husband Steve, step-sons Jeff Bell/wife Deborah, Robin Bell/wife Betty, 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Tom was raised on a farm and ranch at Elizabeth, CO owned by his granddad Charlie Myers. There he developed his love and appreciation of horses which he used to work the land and work with cattle.
After attending high school at Denver North, he pursued his cowboy career at DeBerard Cattle Company at Kremmling, CO. He served his country during WWII in the infantry and artillery. He was in the first wave of soldiers that entered Nagasaki and ran the enlisted men's riding stable in Japan. He achieved the rank of Corporal, returned home and later married Barbara Guye and became the father to Tommy and Christina. Some of his fondest memories included family, rodeo and running the Skylark Ranch at Parshall, CO.

Tom was "talking horse" long before the Horse Whisperer and loved working with horses no matter the discipline. He had a unique ability to understand the way a horse thinks and bring out the best in him even though the animal might have suffered injury, trauma and abuse. He began handling horses as a young boy and became a great trainer.

In 1974 he married Barbara (Bobbi) A. Durey Bell and became a great step-dad to Jeff and Robin. Tom and Bobbi developed a training business, Hollowrock Harness living in CO, OK, NM and TX.

By the time he had reached the age of 70, he figured he had ridden around 3,000 head which included handling hunters, jumpers, reining, teams, roping and cutting horses. He finished out his training years working with race horses for Keith Asmussen in Laredo, TX.

Tom also became a Master Farrier. He shod all disciplines and types of horses and did corrective shoeing for Dr. Adams, Dean of the Vet School at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO.
After retiring from horse training, Tom and Bobbi had a saddle and leather repair shop in Marion, TX.

Happy trails, Tom, Dad, Grandpa! Because of your relationship with Jesus, we don't have to say goodbye, but "See you soon", when the Son is rising in the eastern sky.

In keeping with his request, there will be no service but a family celebration of his life will be held at a later date in Colorado.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Elliott Mortuary & Crematory, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS, 67501. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the funeral home to aid with Bobbi's move to be close to her sons in Austin, TX.
