Obituary

Thomas Raymond 'Tom' Hafner, 86, formerly of Alpena, SD,  passed away Monday, January 20, 2020, at his home in Kansas.

He was born December 31, 1933, in Alpena, SD, to Jacob and Caroline (Brenner) Hafner. Thomas grew up on the family farm near Alpena, attending schools in the Alpena area.

Tom was a farmer and rancher his entire life, with his brother, Jake. He enjoyed farming and watching the Mollie B. Polka Party. Tom was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Huron, South Dakota

Tom married Florence (Stauffer) Lee on November 3, 1995, in Atwood, Kansas.

He is survived by:  his wife, Florence of South Hutchinson; stepsons, Robert (Stacy) Lee of St. Louis, MO, and William Lee of Hutchinson; brother, Jacob Hafner of Alpena, SD; sisters, Marilyn (Vernal) Hanson of Huron, SD, Linda (Gary) Evensen of Rapid City, SD; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and sister and brother-in-law, Loretta (Dwayne) Petersen.

Memorial service will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 27, 2020, in the Fireside Room, 200 Sunnydell Circle, South Hutchinson.  This is located on the campus of Mennonite Friendship Communities.  His funeral service was held January 24, 2020, in Huron, SD, with burial in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Huron, SD.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mennonite Friendship Communities or Mitchell Chapel United Methodist Church , in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501.
