Obituary

Thomas "Tom" Teed Shears, 55, of Colleyville, Texas, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Harris Hospital, Ft. Worth, Texas.

The memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2014, at Grace Episcopal Church, 2 Hyde Park, Hutchinson, Kan., with The Rt. Reverend Michael P. Milliken officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday through Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. A private family inurnment will be held at Fairlawn Burial Park in Hutchinson, Kan. A Celebration of Life service will be 3 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2014, at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home Chapel, 5725 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville, Texas.

Tom was born to Jack R. Shears and Nancy Teed Shears in Hutchinson, Kan., April 15, 1959. He married Cynthia Howell on July 31, 1995. Tom graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1977 and from Kansas State University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Tom was employed by Ventura Foods in Fort Worth, Texas, where he served as Vice President of Sales in the South Central Region. He was a very loyal, dedicated employee and will be missed by his fellow employees and many Ventura customers throughout the country. His hobbies included building cars, boats and motorcycles. Tom had an intense passion for his work and his hobbies. He could change from business attire to a Harley Davidson T-shirt and jeans in a moment's notice.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, Jack Shears, and his stepson, Jeff Bechtold. Tom is survived by: his wife, Cynthia; his mother, Nancy Shears of Hutchinson; his sister, Ann DeNunzio and husband Albert; and four nieces, Lilly, Eleanor, Frances and Grace, all of Nashville, Tenn.; three step-grandchildren, Alecia, Alexandria and Tristyn of Largo, Fla.; and Cynthia's brother, Steve Lemen and his wife Carol; and Cynthia's sister, Marsha Wheeler and her husband Cecil, all of Hutchinson.

Memorials in Tom's memory may be made to the Humane Society of North Texas, 1840 E. Lancaster Ave., Ft. Worth, TX 76103 or a charity of your choice, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
