Thomas Scott Starr, 71, died Oct. 23, 2012, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born Sept. 18, 1941, in Lyons, Kan., the son of Thomas George and Thelma Jean (Scott) Starr.
He graduated from Sylvia High School in 1960 and attended McPherson College. A Vietnam veteran, he served with the United States Navy from 1961 to 1965. Scott retired as an administrator for the Hutchinson Correctional Facility. He was a member of the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68.
Survivors include: two daughters, Lois Cox and husband Jaran of Manhattan, Kan., and Deia Starr Rank and husband Jerry of Overland Park, Kan.; a sister, Connie Bredfeldt of Hutchinson; and five grandchildren, Emily and Abby Cox, and Quillan, Baylor and Gable Rank. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at the Kansas State Veterans' Cemetery, Ft. Riley, Kan. Memorials may be made to the Hutchinson Animal Shelter, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
