Tommy Allan 'Tom' Reed, 83, of Hutchinson, died April 13, 2021, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was born June 16, 1937, in Hutchinson, to Ray and Vara (Gagnebin) Reed.
Tom attended Hutchinson High School and Hutchinson Community College. He served in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1958. Tom worked at Winchester Packing Company for 22 years before becoming a truck driver for Dillons, a job he held for 10 years before retiring. Following that, he went to work for the City of Hutchinson on their summer crew. Tom was a member of Teamsters Local 795. His biggest joy in life came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
On August 3, 1963, Tom married Judith 'Judy' Hale at Haven United Methodist Church. They shared 58 years of marriage. She survives.
Also surviving are: children, Jay Reed (Chere) and Lisa Valentine (Ron) all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Jeff Valentine of Haven, Katy Fawcett (Austin) of Wichita, Emily, Jon, and Jake Reed, all of Hutchinson, sisters, Patsy Moylan (Al) of Snohomish, WA, Linda Humphrey (Frank) of Abbyville; sister-in-law, Bernice Reed of South Hutchinson, brother-in-law, Ron Hale (Joneen) of Kansas City, MO; and numerous extended family members.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Joe Reed; sisters, Shirley Schoonover, Glenna Arneson, and Deanna Hammer.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2021, at Elliott Chapel. Burial will follow in Laurel Cemetery, Haven, with military honors conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the family present to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
