Dr. Tony Grant Powers, O.D., 61, died Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born Sept. 2, 1953, the son of Grant Jr. and Bonnie Gene (Cobb) Powers.
He was a 1972 graduate of Bucklin High School, Ft. Hays State University and Southern College of Optometry. Tony belonged to The Fathers House, Hutchinson AMBUCS and Kansas and American Optometric Associations. He had an Optometry practice in Hutchinson and Sterling over the past 26 years.
On July 30, 1983, he married Valerie Kay Huff in Dodge City. She survives. Other survivors include: their children, twin daughters, Tinesha Robyn of Wichita and Tonya Rebecca of Canyon, Texas, Kaitlyn Dawn of Wichita; a son, Aaron Paul of Hutchinson; his parents of Dodge City; twin brother, Timy Gene of Dodge City, brother, Steven Layne (Merrill) of Spearville; and sister, Sylvia Dawn (Robert) Sellard of Bucklin.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2015, at The Father's House, 1505 East 20th Ave., Hutchinson, with Bishop Quintin Moore presiding. At 3 p.m. his ashes will be scattered at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Bucklin. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
