FLAGSTAFF, ARIZ. - Vance Everett Bulla, 41, of Flagstaff, Ariz., was in a fatal car accident June 4, 2010.
He was born April 24, 1969, in Wichita, Kan . to Larry D. Bulla and Alice Ann Huslig Scheibmeir.
In his youth, he enjoyed playing football and rugby, and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Vance was a graduate of Trinity High School, Hutchinson, and became known for his long and winding collegiate path. His college years began at Hutchinson Community College and continued at both Kansas State University and University of Northern Arizona. His college career ended at College America where he earned Salutatorian Honors and later became a professor. College agreed with him, as a mechanical engineering degree turned into engineering a way to stay in college for as long as possible. He remained forever a student, becoming a Jack-of-All-Trades, from installing car stereos to testing the security of governmental databases, Vance knew a lot, about everything. He eventually found a city that could keep up with him and resided in Flagstaff, Ariz. He was a network systems engineer at North Country HealthCare. In his free time, Vance was sure to be enjoying good friends, good music, and time outdoors. His hobbies included hiking, challenging the status quo, and traveling. Vance had many adventures throughout his life and influenced so many people, too many to list.
He is survived by: his parents, Alice and Larry Scheibmeir, South Hutchinson, and Larry D. Bulla, Colwich. Other survivors include: his sister, Kerry (Cody) Walters, Dodge City; stepbrothers, Dennis (Sheila) Scheibmeir, Larned, Robert (Ceci) Scheibmeir, Wichita, Brian (Patty) Scheibmeir, Frisco, TX; stepsisters, Deborah (Kelly) Hemphill, Wichita, and Lisa Scheibmeir, Wichita; several nieces and nephews; he will be missed by many friends and his pets Ponce and Floyd.
Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Parish Rosary will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2010, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday June 11, 2010, at the church with Fr. Brian Nelson presiding. Interment at 4 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2010, in Fowler Cemetery, Fowler, Kan.
Memorials may be made to the Ford County Humane Society or The Hospice Care of Kansas Children's Bereavement Camp in Vance's name.
